At the height of the Cold War, Gilligan's Island (1964) depicted seven Americans living in an analogue of a post-apocalyptic world where the survivors have to rebuild civilization. Remarkably, the society they create is pure communist. Interviews with the show's creator and some of the surviving actors, as well from professors from Harvard, reveal that Gilligan's Island was deliberately designed to be dismissed as low brow comedy in order to celebrate Marxism and lampoon Western democratic constructs.

The Gilligan Manifesto (2018) Reviews
Beyond making square pegs fit in round holes. Just nonsense!
A completely ridiculous premise. Not even close to remote validity! The author(s) use circular logic, non sequitur snippets from episodes, and additional irrelevant voiceovers and news videos trying to make their case, which scrambles your brain if you try to follow along to make sense of it! lol Even interviews with some of the cast gave no support to the thesis, but was ridiculously and amateurishly presented to make you think so. The only enjoyable part of this show was watching the videos of simple, silly fun this show was - seven friends and their adventures.
A very clever look into a 60's screwball comedy
Gilligan's Island was once a massively popular television program way back in 1960's America. At the time it was viewed as a silly screwball comedy. But according to this documentary the subliminal message throughout the series is that 'in order to survive' a communal (communist ideals) society must be paramount. If you bother to watch this docu I believe you will find it difficult to argue with the writer/directors (Cevin Soling) insight into the foundation of this show. He makes his point clear considering the clash of The Cold War between the US and USSR. Most viewers will find it preposterous. But those who bother to read history will find it meaningful and entertaining.
Clever idea, poor execution
I love the concept and the premises the film puts forward, but it's not very good. The flow of the narrative, the clips, none of it works, the whole film feels like a college PowerPoint presentation. Probably best left for history nuts
