Solo (2007) Reviews
Human too
I give it 10 of 10, only because it was excellent. Bought this film on a whim, went to buy a waste-a-Sunday-action-flick, but the DVD cover stole my attention. I already liked Kasper Torsting's 'Rocket Brothers', I always sympathized with Jon Nørgaard, even if I too jumped on the hating bandwagon as the tabloids told me to. Solo is a raw and unforgiving. A tale about the business, about the pop star Jon and the human being Jon Nørgaard. About the guy the girls love to love and the guys hate to hate. He is sometimes pathetically ordinary, honest and human. He is also courageous, funny and displays the drive and talent that shouldn't be ignored. I do recommend.
Only a boy
It was his chance of a life time. He got everything he wanted, and yet, it all disappeared. When going into the cinema to watch the movie, I expected to see how cruel and mean media and people general had been towards him, and the film also showed that. But I got happily surprised over how the movie suddenly changed and began to to focus on something different. I live very near Jon and has seen him several times at parties and at the street, and a lot of my friends has spoken with him. Almost all my friends talk bad of him, telling about incidents where Jon has threatened them and so on. I have tried to ignore all that and tried to come into the cinema with an open mind. It was very hard though. and to begin with, the documentary started out to be about a whining boy. But but but... as I talked about before, the angle changes from the 'It's-so-hard-for-me' to becoming a documentary about a normal boy who only wants to find love and tenderness. You cannot avoid feeling with him and laughing with him, when he for example wakes up in the morning yawing and smiling to the camera. This is a very touching movie about a funny, sympathetic normal boy who searches for recognition from people, that he only does what he loves, and more important whats to find real love. I think there's a lot of people that wants to give him a second chance now. And that was what the movie was all about. When you have followed him through his up's and down's you can't stop thinking: "he's only a boy", and that is what he is, not a popstar. 8 out of 10. touching!
