La Lucha de Ana (2012) Reviews

  • Good film of social reality drama on Dominican Republic

    vespinal2012-11-30

With this film the Dominican film approaching maturity in terms of the exploitation of social drama and mixing with real people. The performances are very acceptable and well-structured script. Only noticed some editing and direction errors, as well as poor management of sound. Cheddy Garcia offers a very convincing performance, combined with other excellent performances of boys who seem to be characters from the neighborhoods where you live this reality every day. The two societies living in the Dominican Republic, the opulence of political power and drama of the boys from the slums, are well shown through this story.

  • "Anna's Struggle adds quality to the Dominican filmography"

"Anna's Struggle adds quality to the Dominican filmography" The film of Vladimir Abud "Anna's Struggle " gives the idea of the potential young when installed with a good script to develop a good story. Vladimir Abud' s film is hopeful by tone dramatic reached particularly acting in this tone an actress known more by sitcom and nevertheless pulls herself one interpretive capacity not knew him. Anna's Struggle " carries a message reflective of the roads that take today's youth in relation to the world of drugs and crime. Technically the project with few resources from financial institutions independent film, has the dignity of what it achieved. At some points there are weaknesses result of a lack of resources exactly, but in general Abud scored a brilliant career as one of the most promising filmmakers of this. • The struggle of a destitute woman against her son's killer and the country's judiciary

    bobicabayo2013-07-10

People say that reality is stranger than fiction... And more painful I would add. This movie presents the life of a woman who lives in a slum in the Dominican Republic. Ana is a very humble single mother whose only goal in life is to help her son grow up and become a good man. She works selling flowers in a popular market. Her only son is a remarkable student, and achieves to reach 16 years of age without getting caught in the snares of drugs, crime or violence. But living in the slums usually means to interact with criminals, and some of those criminals are either your friends or friends with someone in your family. That is exactly the reason why, as the result of a misunderstanding, Ana's son is shot and killed by the son of a wealthy and powerful family. This is just the beginning of the difficulties that Ana will face. Throughout the movie we will discover that in her country Justice does not run at the same speed for everyone. And that the police needs a little bit more than just facts to quickly resolve a situation. The death of her son, put together with the shortcomings of the judicial system, greatly disappoints Ana who, as a growing majority in her country, thinks that to truly obtain justice, you must take it with your own hands. As a bonus we will also see what the police usually means when it says that a criminal died in a crossfire.

  • Another superficial movie

    narratorjebi2017-12-29

It is another typical Dominican movie where the bad guys are the "rich" and the good the "poor". He wants to be "realistic" about the situation in the Dominican Republic. But treat everything superficially and very cheaply. They resort to victimization whenever they can. The movie has nothing that can be saved. It has a horrible address that would not even have an independent movie. His photography is late for his time and the performances are horrible. The performance of Cheddy García in this film is very overrated, it seems that he saw his son as "something more than his son". These kinds of movies only glorify the lower class just because. They only show that they cause problems and at the end of all the bad ones are others. All topics are treated without depth and simplistic. Its ending is obviously all positive, even though that would not happen in the real world.

  • OverRated

    amarna30602013-01-03

This movie has had a lot if hype in the Dominican movie community, title as serious effort to make more dramatic and socially conscious films, in an industry where the bulk of movies produced has been comedies targeted to a mass market. La lucha de Ana made it to limited Dominican movies theaters and had a conservative success. The problem is that the story presents nothing new, full of clichés and stereotyped characters; the acting is pretty bad with the exception of Cheddy Garcia (Ana) and maybe the guy who plays Ruben, the music and score is bad, the dialog seems forced, the character are flat and underdeveloped and you never get to care for anyone. This movie is way overrated. It wants to leave you with a message of social and class injustice but it fails to deliver that point successfully.
